Ink Print on Rice Paper

Gyotaku printmaking is the traditional Japanese art form of fish printing. Gyotaku literally means "fish impression." This method of printing can be traced back to the mid-1800s, used initially by fishermen to record their catches. Fresko's fish prints are from the tails of Redfish caught on the creeks of Isle of Palms. He uses rice paper and Sumi ink to create these local gyotaku prints. Please note that each fish is unique, so each print varies slightly from one another.
